1. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a XML format that is designed for news websites, it makes it easier for news to be shared between websites. For example, RSS allows Forbes' website to share news with CNN's website. It now also has more common personal use.

2. An RSS reader collects news from various websites and then compiles them and provides them to the viewer in a simple form. It is also called an aggregator.
